Textbook Buyback Account Questions

amazon textbook trade in program?

i did some research and the best deal i can get on selling my college textbooks was through amazon.com’s textbook buyback program. However, they have you mail your books to a third party merchant called “NorAm International” and then if they take the books you get a gift card deposited to your amazon account. My only issue here is that I did some research and couldn’t really find any information about noram international (like who they were, etc), and so i was wondering if anyone has done this before and what your experience was? does it sound like a safe thing to do? etc…

Yes, if Amazon states on their webpage that they will reemburse you, it is a safe thing to do…

But, in case you still are a student you might want to look into TbookXchange.com, and instead exchange them for other textbooks. I recently signed up for http://www.TbookXchange.com which seems like a relatively new free textbook exchange service. All I had to do was create an account, add the books I needed to my need list, the old textbooks to my have list, and if there are any possible exchanges, (which unfortunately does not happen every time, yet), It helps me to save some extra money from not needing to buy a new text book. If it does not work out for you this time, it might do so next time, who knows??? I have to say that I have worked up quite a collection on old text books from many of my previous years, since I am a senior right now. I do wish this website would have started a bit sooner…

Hope this helps…Good Luck with whatever you decide.

How to Save on Textbooks

How to Save on Textbooks

Textbook prices vary; however, students should budget $1,200-$1,500 per full time semester for textbooks, in addition to tuition and residence fees, if they are planning on buying all textbooks new from campus bookstore.

There are several ways that you can save money when you purchase your textbooks:

  • Buy used textbooks
  • Shop at different bookstores
  • Sell your used textbooks

# 1 recommendation: http://www.UsedBookBuySell.com

Usedbookbuysell.com operates a book exchange program that allows you to post a book fast and free. The advantages of this website are that you do not need to register, login in order to post and the transaction is completely free. They do not charge you any listing or transaction fee compared to 18-20% commission in Amazon or eBay.

Your listing is password protected and you can run it until it sells. EBay charges listing fee for number of days and for minimum/buy out prices. Amazon charges an outrageous 18% transaction fee. Also, unlike other book exchange websites, UBBS doesn’t display your email address as seller, so your contact information is completely private. Once you get an offer from a buyer it is up to you to determine how and when you would like to respond. What this means is that students are able to offer the books at lower price as they don’t need to incur high listing fees and transaction costs. You can most certainly save big by purchasing textbooks that other students have put up for sale on usedbookbuysell.com

UsedBookBuySell.com is a great choice when it comes to buying and selling textbooks fast and free. Common marketplace websites also collect your private information through account registration and transaction platform. UsedBookBuySell.com adheres to high privacy standard by not having the posters to sign up for an account.

The posting process is extremely easy and you will get to select a password which you will need to edit or delete your postings. In other sites, you will need to go through lengthy sign in procedures to get to your listings.

Buying Used Books

Buying used textbooks is one of the best ways to save money; however, be aware that professors may use a different edition or textbook from year to year. For example, the professor may use a new edition that has a special new chapter or corrections to some of the answers at the back of the textbook. New pagination in a newer edition of a textbook can make it difficult for you to follow lectures. It is up to you to decide whether the risk is worth the financial reward.
