I am going to be graduating in December with a degree in Accounting. I have experience using software such as QuickBooks and TaxCut. I used QuickBooks for only a couple weeks doing reconciliations for my uncle’s business and personal checks. I used TaxCut in my Business Tax class. The textbook we used gave us situational problems which pretty much described a person’s finances and we prepared their taxes and found tax returns.
I am in no way proficient with these programs. What I would like to know is if I should include this on my resume under the skills section. I would write something like “Experience using QuickBooks and TaxCut”.
Yes u should include them. Embelish as much as u can to get interviews but don’t cross that line into dishonesty. I am a degreed accountant, only bachelor level, with no exp and still looking for a job since I graduated in 08 and I wish I had experience using more programs. I used great plains accounting software in a couple of classes and I am more than happy to mention it, too bad that great plains is not that popular like quickbooks is. I’d reccomend that u stay and get your master’s cuz there isn’t alot out there for recent bachelor level grads who are not working towards the cpa. Your best bet is to be working towards your cpa and to get a job in a public accounting firm and this will open doors for u. I thought I would get a job and then go back and get the mba/cpa but had I stayed in school then I’d at least have an mba right now and probably have a job but I wanted to get back on my feet and I have paid the price of impatience.
